April 18, 2011

TO:
Honorable Byron Cook, Chair, House Committee on State Affairs

FROM:
John S O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB1739 by Walle (Relating to required workers' compensation insurance coverage for building and construction contractors.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Labor Code relating to required workers' compensation insurance coverage for building and construction contractors. Based on the analysis provided by the Texas Department of Insurance, it is assumed that all duties and responsibilities associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be accomplished by utilizing existing agency resources.

Local Government Impact

Costs to units of local government would vary depending on the number and cost of future construction projects in a given locality.
