Fiscal Analysis
House Bill 1844 would amend the Government Code to allow the Texas State Library and Archives Commission (TSLAC) to accept and store local government records within the state records center for a fee sufficient to recover related agency costs.
Methodology
There are approximately 50,000 cubic feet of unused storage space available within the state records center. The estimated cost to store records at the state records center is $0.33 per cubic foot per month.
Local Government Impact
House Bill 1844 provides the potential for local governmental entities to realize savings from the use of the state records center to the extent the Texas State Library and Archives Commission is able to provide storage services at a per unit fee which is less than the storage costs currently available to local entities.
