Honorable Jim Jackson, Chair, House Committee on Judiciary & Civil Jurisprudence
FROM:
John S O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board
IN RE:
HB1970 by Jackson, Jim (Relating to the periodic review of the child support guidelines.), As Introduced
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend the Family Code relating to the periodic review of child support guidelines. The bill would remove the requirement that standing committees review and recommend revisions to the guidelines for child support under Chapter 154 before each regular legislative session and instead require the Office of Attorney General (OAG) Child Support Division to review the child support guidelines every four years (instead of by December 1st of each even-numbered year) and report the results to the standing committees. To the extent the bill would result in savings at the OAG for reports submitted every four years rather than every two years, the savings are not anticipated to be significant. The bill would take effect September 1, 2011.
Local Government Impact
No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
