LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 82ND LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

March 16, 2011

TO:
Honorable Jerry Madden, Chair, House Committee on Corrections

FROM:
John S O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB2119 by Madden (Relating to the requirement that the Texas Correctional Office on Offenders with Medical or Mental Impairments provide certain services and programs.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend Health and Safety Code Section 614 to make permissive the provision of continuity of care and service programs for juveniles with mental impairments in the juvenile justice system by the Texas Correctional Office on Offenders with Medical or Mental Impairments (TCOOMMI) if funding is not specifically appropriated for that purpose.

Local Government Impact

The Juvenile Probation Commission estimates that if local juvenile probation departments provided the services formerly funded through TCOOMMI, the cost could be up to $6.7 million depending on the types and quantity of services the departments decided to provide.
