IN RE:
HB2274 by Eiland (Relating to requiring a municipality to pay for the expenses of an election contest for a person elected to the governing body of the municipality.), As Introduced
No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend the Election Code to entitle a contestee who is elected to the governing body of a city to have the city pay the expenses of defending the election contest, including any reasonable attorney’s fees, court costs, and similar expenses.
Local Government Impact
There could be a significant fiscal impact to a city, but the amounts would vary depending on the number of election results that are contested by an applicable contestee and whether a municipality currently has procedures or funds established regarding election contestees.
