LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 82ND LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

May 11, 2011

TO:
Honorable Jane Nelson, Chair, Senate Committee on Health & Human Services

FROM:
John S O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB2703 by Truitt (Relating to the regulation of orthotists and prosthetists.), As Engrossed

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend Chapter 605, Occupations Code, relating to the regulation of orthotists and prosthetists, to include advanced practice nurses and physicians assistants in the provisions of the chapter, provided they are acting under the delegation and supervision of a licensed physician as provided in statute and in rules adopted by the Texas Medical Board. The bill would take effect September 1, 2011.

Both the Department of State Health Services and the Texas Medical Board indicate that implementation of the provisions of the bill could be accomplished using existing resources.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
