No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend the Local Government Code to require a peace officer to remain at the location of a damaged fence until the land owner or owner’s representative arrives if the peace officer believes the fence is intended to contain livestock or other animals.
The bill also would amend the Transportation Code to require a county law enforcement agency to use funds received from the sale of a motor vehicle involved in a vehicular pursuit to compensate the property owner for damages as a result of the pursuit. A sheriff or a constable would be required to submit the proposed compensation to the commissioners court for approval.
