The bill would amend the Transportation Code to authorize a law enforcement agency of a municipality to use excess proceeds from the auction of an abandoned motor vehicle to compensate property owners whose property was damaged as a result of a pursuit involving the law enforcement agency. The bill would remove certain restrictions regarding compensation to property owners from law enforcement agencies. The bill would repeal Section 683.015(g) of the Transportation Code.
The bill would take effect immediately if it receives a vote of two-thirds of all members elected to each house. If the bill does not receive the votes required to pass, the bill would take effect September 1, 2011.
