Honorable Larry Phillips, Chair, House Committee on Transportation
FROM:
John S O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board
IN RE:
HB3837 by Isaac (Relating to the designation of a portion of U.S. Highway 183 as the Cpl. Jason K. LaFleur Memorial Highway.), As Introduced
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would require the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) to design, construct, and erect highway markers designating a portion of U.S. Highway 183 as the Cpl. Jason K. LaFleur Memorial Highway, subject to Section 225.021 (c), Transportation Code.
The bill would take effect immediately upon receiving a vote of two-thirds of all members elected to each house; otherwise the bill would take effect on September 1, 2011.
Section 225.021 (c), Transportation Code, specifies that TxDOT is not required to design, construct, or erect the marker unless a grant or donation of funds is made to the department to cover the cost. Based on the analysis of TxDOT, it is assumed any duties associated with the implementation of the provisions of the bill could be absorbed within the agency's existing resources.
Local Government Impact
No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
