FISCAL NOTE, 82ND LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 12, 2011

TO:
Honorable Rob Eissler, Chair, House Committee on Public Education

FROM:
John S O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB27 by Zaffirini (Relating to policies of school districts and open-enrollment charter schools for the care of certain students at risk for anaphylaxis.), As Engrossed

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill requires the board of trustees of each school district and governing entities of each open-enrollment charter school to implement and administer a policy for the care of students with a diagnosed food allergy at risk for anaphylaxis based on guidelines developed by the commissioner of the Department of State Health Services in consultation with an ad hoc committee appointed by the commissioner.

It is assumed that any costs associated with the provisions in this bill can be absorbed within existing agency resources.

This act would take effect immediately if it receives two-thirds vote of all members of each house. If it does not receive the necessary votes it would take effect September 1, 2011.

Local Government Impact

No significant costs are anticipated for implementing or aligning school district or charter school policies for the care of students at risk for anaphylaxis.
