FISCAL NOTE, 82ND LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

February 17, 2011

TO:
Honorable John Carona, Chair, Senate Committee on Business & Commerce

FROM:
John S O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB64 by Zaffirini (Relating to the right of an employee who is a victim of a crime to time off from work to attend court proceedings related to that crime.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill amends the Labor Code relating to the right of employees who are victims of crime or who is the parent or guardian of a crime victim to take time off from work without a reduction in pay or use of existing leave to attend court proceedings related to the crime.  The Texas Workforce Commission indicates that any costs associated with the bill could be absorbed within the agency’s existing resources.

The bill would take effect September 1, 2011.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
