LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 82ND LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

May 3, 2011

TO:
Honorable Kel Seliger, Chair, Senate Committee on Redistricting, Select

FROM:
John S O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB196 by Wentworth (Relating to the reapportionment of congressional districts and the creation, function, and duties of the Texas Congressional Redistricting Commission.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would establish a Texas Congressional Redistricting Commission and delegate the legislature's congressional redistricting powers to that body. The bill would require the Council to provide technical staff and clerical services to the commission.  However it is anticipated that any additional resources necessary to implement the provisions of the bill could be absorbed within existing resources.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
