IN RE:
SB391 by Patrick (Relating to the provision of electronic sample copies of a textbook adopted by the State Board of Education.), As Introduced
No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would require that the notice published by the State Board of Education regarding the review and adoption cycle for textbooks as required by Texas Education Code 31.022(d) include notification that publishers of adopted textbooks for grades kindergarten through 12 must submit an electronic sample of the textbook. The bill would require that publishers provide an electronic sample to school districts and Regional Education Service Centers upon request.
Local Government Impact
To the extent that individual school districts lack the technological capacity to review textbooks in an electronic format, costs may be incurred to make accommodations to allow for review. Costs would vary significantly among school districts.
