IN RE: | SB647 by Hegar (Relating to the continuation and operation of the office of public insurance counsel.), As Passed 2nd House |
The bill would amend the Insurance Code relating to the continuation and operation of the Office of Public Insurance Counsel (OPIC). OPIC is subject to the Sunset Act and will be abolished on September 1, 2011, unless continued by the Legislature. The bill would continue OPIC for 12 years and would take effect on September 1, 2011. The bill would also require OPIC to develop and encourage the use of appropriate aleternative dispute resolution procedures.
Based on the analysis provided by OPIC and the Sunset Commission, any costs associated with the implementation of the bill could be absorbed within OPIC's existing resources.
