FISCAL NOTE, 82ND LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

May 6, 2011

TO:
Honorable David Dewhurst, Lieutenant Governor, Senate

FROM:
John S O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB1107 by Davis (Relating to the vaccination against bacterial meningitis of entering students at public and private or independent institutions of higher education. ), As Passed 2nd House

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill modifies existing law which requires a vaccination against bacterial meningitis for first-time students at public or private institutions who live in on-campus housing. Under provisions of the bill, the requirement would apply to "entering students" as defined in the bill. The requirement would not apply to a student of an institution who is enrolled only in online or other distance education courses or who is 30 years of age or older.  The Act would be known as the Jamie Schanbaum and Nicolis Williams Act. Provisions of the bill would be implemented within existing resources.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
