March 25, 2011

TO:
Honorable Mike Jackson, Chair, Senate Committee on Economic Development

FROM:
John S O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB1176 by Jackson (Relating to the definition of a postsecondary program in regard to non-baccalaureate career schools and colleges.), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend Chapter 132 of the Education Code to add a definition of a postsecondary program, to mean a program that requires a student to have a high school diploma or high school equivalency certificate, or requires that the person be beyond the age of compulsory education.  A program of instruction in yoga or that trains persons to teach yoga is not considered a postsecondary program.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
