LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 82ND LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

March 30, 2011

TO:
Honorable Jeff Wentworth, Chair, Senate Committee on Open Government, Select

FROM:
John S O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB1270 by Wentworth (Relating to the public information law.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend Government Code to expand current exemptions to the public information law. Under the bill's provisions, information from a report required by the federal Bank Secrecy Act, or derived from such a report, obtained by a governmental body for a law enforcement purpose would be exempt from public disclosure. The bill would take effect September 1, 2011.

This analysis assumes that any costs associated with implementing the bill's provisions could be met with existing resources.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
