FROM:
John S O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board
IN RE:
SB1271 by Duncan (Relating to alternative dispute resolution systems established by counties.), As Engrossed
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend the Civil Practices and Remedies Code to authorize the commissioners court of a county to establish an alternative dispute resolution system. The bill would also authorize a court to refer civil or criminal cases, with the written consent of the State, to the alternative dispute resolution system.
According to the Office of Court Administration, the provisions of the bill may provide for a more efficient manner with which to resolve disputes for governmental entities, but the number of these cases would not be significant; therefore, no significant fiscal impact is anticipated.
Local Government Impact
No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
