LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 82ND LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

May 6, 2011

TO:
Honorable Robert Duncan, Chair, Senate Committee on State Affairs

FROM:
John S O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB1355 by Duncan (Relating to allowing for countywide polling places as an alternative election system.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would allow the use of countywide polling places for certain elections and would require the Secretary of State to establish rules. It is anticipated that any costs associated with implementation of the legislation could be absorbed within existing resources. The bill would take effect September 1, 2011.

Local Government Impact

It is assumed that a commissioners court of a county would elect to participate in the countywide
polling place program only if funds are available; however, fiscal impact is not anticipated to be significant.
