IN RE:
SB1696 by Williams (Relating to the creation of an automatic license plate reader pilot program.), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend the Government Code to require the Department of Public Safety (DPS) to establish a pilot program relating to the use of automatic license plate readers in law enforcement motor vehicles and include a request for proposal process to select a contractor for the installation of the license plate readers. The bill would take effect September 1, 2011. This analysis assumes DPS could implement the provisions of the bill within existing appropriations.
Local Government Impact
No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
