LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

ACTUARIAL IMPACT STATEMENT

82ND LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

March 4, 2011

TO:
Honorable Vicki Truitt, Chair, House Committee on Pensions, Investments & Financial Services

FROM:
John S O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB983 by Menendez (Relating to health insurance coverage for eligible survivors of certain public servants killed in the line of duty.), As Introduced

In response to your request for an Actuarial Impact Statement on HB 983 (relating to health insurance coverage for eligible survivors of certain public servants killed in the line of duty) the Pension Review Board (PRB) has determined the following:

HB 983 would amend various sections of the Government Code, Title 6, Subtitle A, Chapter 615, relating to financial assistance to survivors of certain law enforcement officers, fire fighters, and others. The board of trustees of the Employees Retirement System of Texas (ERS) administers this Chapter under rules adopted by the board. The bill would make adjustments to eligibility for health insurance for these survivors.

The proposed bill, if enacted, will not have an actuarial impact on the retirement funds administered by ERS because it does not propose to change the funding or obligations of a public retirement system.
