LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

OPEN GOVERNMENT IMPACT STATEMENT

82ND LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

May 18, 2011

TO:
Honorable Jeff Wentworth, Chair, Senate Committee on Open Government, Select

FROM:
John S O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB1923 by Wentworth (Relating to providing that certain travel vouchers submitted by peace officers assigned to a protective detail are confidential.), As Introduced

As a result of this bill there will be a restriction upon the open records law and the access to government information.

The bill amends Chapter 660, Government Code, to exempt from public disclosure peace officers' travel vouchers if the expenses are related to protecting an elected official in Texas or an official's family member. A state agency may, however, provide a summary of amounts paid or reimbursed by the Comptroller of Public Accounts as well as any goods or services acquired from the travel expense.
