Pursuant to a notice posted on June 21, 2012, the House Committee on Border & Intergovernmental Affairs met in a public hearing and was called to order by the chair, Representative Gonzales, Veronica, at 10:17 a.m.

 

The initial quorum call was answered as follows: Representatives Gonzales, Veronica; Weber; Gonzales, Larry; Riddle; and Simpson.

 

A quorum was present.

 


 

Interim Charge 1: Identify significant health disparities in counties along the Texas-Mexico border and their impact on the regions health care system. Consider strategies to reduce demand for health related services, including better use of preventative medicine and promotoras, or community health workers.

Interim Charge 4: Examine the impact of the state’s various economic development programs and evaluate their impact on communities along the Texas-Mexico border. Identify any changes to these programs that would improve economic development activity in those communities.
