Pursuant to a notice posted on March 15, 2012, the
House Committee on Human Services met in a public hearing and was called to
order by the chair, Representative Raymond, at 9:16 a.m.
The initial quorum call was answered as follows:
Representatives Raymond; Morrison; Gonzalez, Naomi; Laubenberg; Naishtat; and
Taylor, Van.
A quorum was present.
The committee met to hear invited and public testimony on
interim charge three: “Explore strategies,
including those in other states, to support the needs of aging Texans,
including best practices in nursing home diversion, expedited access to
community services, and programs to assist seniors and their families in
navigating the long-term care system, with the goal of helping seniors remain
in the community. Assess the feasibility of leveraging volunteer-supported
initiatives using existing infrastructure to enhance the ability of seniors to
remain active and involved.”
