Pursuant to a notice posted on November 5, 2012, the House Committee on Manufacturing, Interim met in a public hearing and was called to order by the chair, Representative Murphy, at 11:18 a.m.

 

The initial quorum call was answered as follows: Representatives Murphy; Rodriguez, Eddie; Isaac; Johnson; King, Tracy O.; Kuempel; Larson; Lavender; Munoz, Jr.; Parker; and Sheets.

 

A quorum was present.

 

 

Chairman Murphy called the meeting to order and welcomed those present and described the purpose of the meeting to discuss workforce  as related to manufacturing in Texas.

 

Chairman Murphy called the first panel to testify.

Invited testimony was taken from the first panel of witnesses; Dr. Frank Chen, UTSA, Dr. Federico Zaragoza, Alamo Colleges, James Russell, Texarkana College, Mike Midgley, Austin Community College, Carlos Margo, South Texas College.

Chairman Murphy called the second panel to testify.

Invited testimony was taken from the second panel of witnesses; Andres Alcantar, Texas Workforce Commission, Raymund Paredes, THECB, Thomas Palladino, Texas Veterans Commission.

Chairman Rodriguez called the third panel to testify.

 

Invited testimony was taken from the third  panel of witnesses; Rene Lara, Texas AFL-CIO, Michael Willard, Goodwill Industries of Central Texas, Mario Hernandez, San Antonio Eco Dev Found.

Chairman Rodriguez called the fourth panel to testify.

Invited testimony was taken from the fourth panel of witnesses; John Dewey, San Antonio Manufacturers Association, (Representative Murphy in chair.) Joe Arnold, Texas Association of Manufacturers, Jerry Garcia, Texas Association of Builders.

 

Public testimony was taken from Eva Esquivel, Workforce Solutions Alamo.

 

Chairman Murphy moved that public testimony be closed. With no objections, it was so ordered.

 

At 3:15 p.m., on the motion of the chair and without objection, the meeting was adjourned subject to the call of the chair.
