Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule 11.10 and 11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Education was held on Tuesday, February 1, 2011, in the Capitol Extension, Room E1.028, at Austin, Texas.

The chair called the meeting to order at 10:00 AM.  The following business was transacted:

 

The chair made introductory remarks and welcomed Committee members to the Senate Committee on Education.  The chair recognized members to make remarks and introduce their staff followed by the Chair's introduction of the Senate Committee on Education staff.

 

There being a quorum a present at 10:17 AM, the clerk called the roll.
 
The chair laid out the proposed Committee Rules.  Senator Davis moved adoption of the committee rules. There being no objection, it was so ordered.

 

The chair called the following invited witnesses to provide testimony on Flexibility and Mandate Relief.  See attached list.

 

At 10:58 AM Senator Shapiro moved that the Committee stand recessed until 1:00 PM.  Without objection, it was so ordered.

At 1:33 PM the committee reconvened.  Invited testimony continued.

 

At 4:23 PM Senator Patrick assumed the chair.

 

At 4:25 PM Senator Shapiro resumed the chair.

 

The chair called persons who registered as public witnesses to provide testimony on Flexibility and Mandate Relief.  See attached list.

 

There being no further business, at 5:48 PM Senator Shapiro moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of the chair. Without objection, it was so ordered.
