Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule 11.10 and 11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Education was held on Monday, June 6, 2011, in the Capitol Extension, Room E1.028, at Austin, Texas.

Senator Seliger called the meeting to order at 1:09 PM. The following business was transacted:

 

The chair laid out SB 30 and recognized the author, Senator Shapiro, to explain the bill.  Witnesses testifying and registering on the bill are shown on the attached list. The chair moved that the public testimony be closed; without objection, it was so ordered.

 

Senator Seliger moved that SB 30 be left pending; without objection, it was so ordered.

 

The chair laid out SB 31 and recognized the author, Senator Shapiro, to explain the bill.  Witnesses testifying and registering on the bill are shown on the attached list. The chair moved that the public testimony be closed; without objection, it was so ordered.

 

Senator Seliger moved that SB 31 be left pending; without objection, it was so ordered.  

 

At 1:34 PM Senator Shapiro assumed the chair.

 

There being no further business, at 1:34 PM Senator Shapiro moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of the chair. Without objection, it was so ordered.

 

Pursuant to the suspension of Senate Rules 11.10 and 11.18 at 5:33 PM the committee

reconvened at Senator Shapiro’s desk.

 

The clerk called the roll. There being a quorum present the following business was

transacted:

 

At 5:33 PM Senator Patrick assumed the chair.

 

As a matter of pending business, the chair laid out SB 30.  Senator Shapiro moved that SB 30 be reported favorably to the Senate with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed. The motion carried with a record vote of 8 ayes, 0 nays, 0 present not voting, and 1 absent.

 

As a matter of pending business, the chair laid out SB 31.  Senator Shapiro moved that SB 31 be reported favorably to the Senate with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed. The motion carried with a record vote of 8 ayes, 0 nays, 0 present not voting, and 1 absent. 

 

At 5:35 PM Senator Shapiro resumed the chair.

 

There being no further business, at 5:35 PM Senator Shapiro moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of the chair. Without objection, it was so ordered.
