Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule 11.10 and 11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Education was held on Tuesday, July 17, 2012, in the Capitol Extension, Room E1.028, at Austin, Texas.

Senator Kel Seliger called the meeting to order at 9:03 AM. The following business was transacted:

Senator Kel Seliger chaired this hearing on Senate Interim Charge #1.

Senator Kel Seliger made opening remarks to the Committee.

The chair called the following invited witnesses to provide testimony on Senate Interim Charge 1: Study public school management practices, including the use and options for shared services for both academics and operations. Examine the role of Regional Education Service Centers. Specifically, review the types of services being provided and their ability to assist school districts with improving efficiencies.  See attached list.

At 11:40 AM Senator Dan Patrick assumed the chair. 

At 11:43 AM Senator Kel Seliger resumed the chair.

The chair called persons who registered as public witnesses to provide testimony on the interim committee charge.  See attached list.

The chair moved that the public testimony be closed; without objection, it was so ordered.

There being no further business, at 2:13 PM Senator Kel Seliger moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of the chair. Without objection, it was so ordered.
