R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Anthony Tovar has served the Dallas Independent
  School District with distinction for three and a half decades, and
  his able leadership as principal of Sunset High School has gained
  him widespread acclaim and appreciation from students, faculty,
  staff, parents, and alumni alike; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Tovar has led Sunset High School for the past
  seven years, and during his tenure, graduation rates have increased
  by double digits while scores on TAKS tests have surged; he is an
  outgoing and involved principal, checking in on classrooms and
  walking the halls, and he attends many extracurricular activities,
  engaging students and parents alike and drawing on the motivational
  expertise he developed through decades of coaching sports; since he
  assumed his present post, a number of high-achieving Sunset
  students have won awards and other accolades or excelled in
  athletics; and
         WHEREAS, Raised in Dallas, Mr. Tovar graduated from W. W.
  Samuel High School in 1974 and from Texas Tech University in 1978;
  later, he completed graduate work in education administration at
  Texas A&M University--Commerce; he began his employment with the
  Dallas ISD when he was hired to teach social studies and coach
  football and baseball at McAdams Middle School, and he subsequently
  taught and coached at Woodrow Wilson High School, W. T. White High
  School, and Skyline High School, where he served for 16 years; he
  spent three years as assistant principal at W. H. Adamson High
  School and another three years in the same post at Molina High
  School before transferring to Sunset High School; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Tovar is the husband of Shannon Tovar, the
  principal of Grapevine High School; their fine family includes four
  children and two grandchildren; and
         WHEREAS, Possessing exceptional administrative skills and a
  clear and ambitious vision for his school, Tony Tovar works
  tirelessly to ensure that every student on his campus receives a
  quality education in a supportive environment, and it is a
  privilege to recognize his immeasurable contributions to the Dallas
  ISD community; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby honor Anthony Tovar on his
  35 years of service to the Dallas Independent School District and on
  his accomplishments as principal of Sunset High School and extend
  to him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Tovar as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
