R E S O L U T I O N
|

|
|
WHEREAS, Proud descendants of American veterans are |
|
|
gathering in Houston from August 23 to 25, 2013, for the Sons of the |
|
|
American Legion National Convention; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Created in 1932, this organization is affiliated |
|
|
with the American Legion, and it is open to men and boys of all ages |
|
|
whose parents or grandparents served in the armed forces of the |
|
|
United States; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The group works to preserve American traditions and |
|
|
values, to care for veterans and their families, to improve the |
|
|
lives of the nation's children, and to promote the fundamentals of |
|
|
good citizenship; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, During the convention, the baton of leadership will |
|
|
pass from Chris Huntzinger of Pennsylvania, who served as national |
|
|
commander during 2012, to the new national commander, Joe Gladden |
|
|
of Maryland; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The citizens of our nation owe a profound debt of |
|
|
gratitude to those men and women who have taken up arms to defend |
|
|
our freedom, and for more than 80 years, the Sons of the American |
|
|
Legion has helped lead the effort to support and honor our brave |
|
|
veterans; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
|
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commemorate the 2013 Sons |
|
|
of the American Legion National Convention in Houston and extend to |
|
|
the organization's officers and members sincere best wishes for a |
|
|
meaningful and memorable event; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for the Sons of the American Legion as an expression of |
|
|
high regard by the Texas House of Representatives. |
