R E S O L U T I O N
|

|
|
WHEREAS, Chuck Davidson of Houston has made a positive and |
|
|
lasting difference in his community through his contributions as a |
|
|
teacher, as a volunteer, and as a caring citizen; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, This native New Yorker arrived in the Lone Star |
|
|
State in 1968 to perform community work for the Presbyterian |
|
|
church; four years later, he embarked on his career in education at |
|
|
Ashford Elementary School, where he taught many young Texans over |
|
|
the course of a tenure that spanned three decades; in addition to |
|
|
his duties in the classroom, Mr. Davidson coached softball and |
|
|
participated in numerous school activities, and along the way he |
|
|
earned a master's degree from Houston Baptist University; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A resident of the Spring Branch community since |
|
|
1976, Mr. Davidson began volunteering at Spring Woods High School |
|
|
after his retirement from teaching in 2000; he contributed his time |
|
|
and talents to work with the school's sporting events, senior class |
|
|
activities, and athletic and band booster clubs; moreover, he |
|
|
created the Spring Branch Independent School District Good Neighbor |
|
|
program, which recognizes those individuals, businesses, and |
|
|
organizations that actively support local schools; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Davidson also played an instrumental role in the |
|
|
creation of the Spring Branch North Super Neighborhood initiative, |
|
|
and in his role as president of that organization, he acted as a |
|
|
liaison between city officials and area residents; he served in a |
|
|
leadership role with the Spring Shadows Civic Association as well, |
|
|
and he is a valued member of the Spring Branch Presbyterian Church, |
|
|
where he is an elder and the head of the Service Ministry team; a |
|
|
charter member and former president of the Houston Northwest Lions |
|
|
Club, he oversaw the collection of more than 27,000 pairs of |
|
|
eyeglasses for distribution to the disadvantaged; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, Mr. Davidson enjoys the |
|
|
love and support of his wife, Beverly, with whom he has shared 37 |
|
|
years, and he takes great pride in their children, Ronald, |
|
|
Christina, Alexa, and Vera, as well as in their five grandchildren |
|
|
and two great-grandchildren; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Chuck Davidson has contributed to his fellow |
|
|
citizens through a lifetime of purposeful endeavor, and in so |
|
|
doing, he has set an inspiring example of civic engagement, |
|
|
leadership, and generosity; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
|
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Chuck Davidson for |
|
|
his outstanding service to his community and extend to him sincere |
|
|
best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Mr. Davidson as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
