R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Earl Osborne retired from the Angleton Independent |
|
School District on June 8, 2013, concluding a distinguished career |
|
with the district that spanned 37 years; and |
|
WHEREAS, An admired educator and athletic trainer, "Doc" |
|
Osborne provided exceptional care for students involved in sports, |
|
developing training and rehabilitation programs, as well as setting |
|
up appointments with physicians and taking youths to the doctor; |
|
for more than three decades, he also served as an adaptive physical |
|
education instructor for children with multiple handicaps, and he |
|
coached soccer for five years; in addition, he helped write the |
|
district's concussion policy, and he instructed all coaches and |
|
extracurricular staff in CPR and first aid; he has also shared his |
|
knowledge as a speaker at athletic conferences; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Osborne was born in Pennsylvania and graduated |
|
from West Chester State College; after a time, he decided to move to |
|
Texas, which had become the first state to license athletic |
|
trainers, and in 1976 he joined the faculty of Angleton High School; |
|
he built his house just two blocks from the campus so that he could |
|
respond quickly to any call, and when his daughter, Leeann, was |
|
little, his wife, Marilyn, often wheeled her over to the stadium in |
|
a stroller to say goodnight; and |
|
WHEREAS, Dedicated to the wider community as well, |
|
Mr. Osborne is an active member of the citizens' emergency response |
|
team for FEMA; he assisted in the evacuation of citizens as |
|
Hurricane Ike bore down on the coast in 2008, and he worked the |
|
telephone bank during and after the storm; in his leisure hours, he |
|
plays saxophone in a jazz band and in a local wind ensemble; his |
|
retirement will give him more time to volunteer and to enjoy |
|
listening to music, traveling, and relaxing with a fine family that |
|
has grown to include his son-in-law, Ben Rudolph, and two |
|
grandchildren, Burke and Kirkland; and |
|
WHEREAS, Doc Osborne has made a positive impact on the lives |
|
of countless young Texans, and as he begins the next exciting |
|
chapter of his life, he may indeed reflect with pride on a career |
|
well spent; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Earl "Doc" |
|
Osborne on his retirement from the Angleton Independent School |
|
District and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, |
|
be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Osborne as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
