R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Andrew Lee Jones graduated as valedictorian of the
  senior class of Panhandle High School on May 31, 2013; and
         WHEREAS, Earning the title of valedictorian requires not only
  intellect and aptitude, but also four years of dedication to the
  highest academic standards; to attain this coveted distinction, Mr.
  Jones has demonstrated a thorough understanding of a wide range of
  subjects; he has especially excelled in science and won distinction
  in a number of University Interscholastic League contests, most
  recently taking a silver medal in biology at the 2013 State Academic
  Spring Meet; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Jones served his fellow students as president of
  the senior class, as treasurer of the National Honor Society, and as
  a member of the student council; a gifted athlete, he ran track,
  qualified for regionals in cross-country, and played basketball; he
  also competed as a member of the debate team; he is an Eagle Scout
  who contributes to the betterment of his community through service
  with the First United Methodist Church Youth and the Carson County
  Youth Leadership Advisory Board; and
         WHEREAS, The son of proud parents Craig and Astrid Jones, Mr.
  Jones plans to pursue a degree in biology at Texas Tech University;
  and
         WHEREAS, Throughout his academic career, Andrew Jones has
  earned the respect and admiration of his teachers and classmates at
  Panhandle High School, and his exceptional scholastic ability, hard
  work, and commitment to excellence have opened the way to limitless
  opportunities for this outstanding young Texan; now, therefore, be
  it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Andrew Lee
  Jones, valedictorian of the Panhandle High School Class of 2013,
  and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success as he
  begins the next exciting chapter of his life; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Jones as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
