R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Aaliyah Xu Sun graduated as valedictorian of the
  senior class of West Texas High School on May 31, 2013; and
         WHEREAS, Earning the title of valedictorian requires not only
  intellect and aptitude, but also four years of dedication to the
  highest academic standards; to attain this coveted distinction,
  Ms. Sun demonstrated a thorough understanding of a wide range of
  subjects, and the rewards of the countless hours she has devoted to
  her studies are myriad; and
         WHEREAS, A member of the National Honor Society, where she
  served as vice president, and also a member of the cheerleading
  squad, Ms. Sun further distinguished herself as a talented athlete,
  receiving all-district academic honors for track and all-state
  recognition in volleyball and basketball; active in band, she
  advanced to state in solo-ensemble; she also qualified for UIL
  regionals in the number sense and calculator events and competed at
  the state level in CX debate and in one-act play; honored repeatedly
  for her theatrical performances, she was named to all-star casts
  for the district one-act play, the zone one-act play, and the dinner
  theatre; and
         WHEREAS, Demonstrating notable leadership, Ms. Sun served as
  secretary of the student council and as captain of the science bowl
  team; she plans to study chemical engineering at Texas Tech
  University, where she has been admitted to the honors college; and
         WHEREAS, The daughter of proud parents Yuhong Kenny and Matt
  and Kelley Tucker, Aaliyah Sun has earned the respect and
  admiration of teachers and classmates alike, and her exceptional
  scholastic ability, hard work, and commitment to excellence have
  opened the way to limitless opportunities for this outstanding
  young Texan; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Aaliyah Xu
  Sun, valedictorian of the West Texas High School Class of 2013, and
  extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success as she
  begins the next exciting chapter of her life; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Sun as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
