R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Devin DeLapp is graduating as salutatorian of the |
|
senior class of West Texas High School on May 31, 2013; and |
|
WHEREAS, Earning the title of salutatorian requires not only |
|
intellect and aptitude but also four years of dedication to the |
|
highest academic standards; to attain this coveted distinction, |
|
Ms. DeLapp has demonstrated a thorough understanding of a wide |
|
range of subjects, and the rewards of the countless hours she has |
|
devoted to her studies are myriad; in addition to maintaining a 4.0 |
|
grade point average, she has completed 15 credit hours with Frank |
|
Phillips College; this dynamic young woman has also participated in |
|
University Interscholastic League events, qualifying for state in |
|
poetry interpretation and for regionals in persuasive speaking and |
|
earning All-Star Cast recognition at the 2012-2013 UIL One-Act Play |
|
state meet; and |
|
WHEREAS, Ms. DeLapp has further distinguished herself |
|
through numerous sporting activities, including cheerleading, |
|
basketball, softball, and track; for her outstanding athletic |
|
achievement, the National Cheerleaders Association named her an |
|
All-American Cheerleader three times and a Top All-American |
|
Cheerleader in 2011; moreover, she has been honored as a Borger News |
|
Herald Athlete of the Week and as a Globe-News Scholar Athlete, been |
|
selected for both softball and volleyball First Team All-District, |
|
and been a top regionals finalist in track for three consecutive |
|
years; demonstrating notable leadership, Ms. DeLapp has served as |
|
president of the student council, vice president and president of |
|
the National Honor Society, and captain of the cheerleading squad; |
|
following her graduation, she plans to study mass communication and |
|
business at the University of Oklahoma and hopes to one day attend |
|
law school; and |
|
WHEREAS, The daughter of proud parents Renea and Dale Founds |
|
and Lee DeLapp, Devin DeLapp has earned the respect and admiration |
|
of teachers and classmates alike, and her exceptional scholastic |
|
ability, hard work, and commitment to excellence have opened the |
|
way to limitless opportunities for this outstanding young Texan; |
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Devin DeLapp |
|
on being named salutatorian of the West Texas High School Class of |
|
2013 and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success as |
|
she begins the next exciting chapter of her life; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Ms. DeLapp as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
