R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, The "First Annual Commemoration of Our Chicano
  Legacy" is taking place in Crystal City from November 7 to 10, 2013;
  and
         WHEREAS, This noteworthy event is honoring Chicano activists
  who have furthered the cause of social justice, in keeping with a
  tradition of engagement established in Zavala County during a
  crucial period in American history; in 1963 and again in 1969,
  Mexican Americans in Crystal City organized against Anglo
  domination of city hall and the public school system, and these
  determined, courageous citizens won an electoral victory for
  members of their community for the first time since the city's
  incorporation in 1910; and
         WHEREAS, The Crystal City movement marked a significant
  turning point for Mexican Americans, and it is indeed fitting to
  recognize those who took part and all those who have been inspired
  to continue to work toward a more just and equal society; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby recognize the "First Annual
  Commemoration of Our Chicano Legacy" and extend to the event
  organizers and participants sincere best wishes for a memorable and
  meaningful observance; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the coordinating committee as an expression of high
  regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
