R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Crosby High School team of Jacob Gonzales and
  Ashley Lance won the 4A title at the 2013 University
  Interscholastic League Cross-Examination Debate State Meet, which
  took place March 11 through 16 in Austin; and
         WHEREAS, Facing the top competitors in Texas, Mr. Gonzales
  and Ms. Lance advanced through the preliminary and elimination
  rounds without losing a single match; in the championship final
  against the team from the Liberal Arts and Science Academy of
  Austin, the duo turned in another impressive performance to claim a
  3-0 victory and the state crown; the win was especially satisfying
  because these two dedicated students had finished in second place
  at the 2012 state meet; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Gonzales and Ms. Lance benefited from the able
  guidance of head coach Jason Courville and assistant coach Stephen
  Garrett, and the team's outstanding showing furthered the school's
  tradition of excellence in debate competition; this marks the third
  time in a dozen years that Crosby High students have won the
  cross-examination state title, and contestants from the school have
  advanced to the National Forensic League national tournament during
  seven of the past eight years; and
         WHEREAS, Through hard work and exceptional skill in the art
  of debate and public speaking, Jacob Gonzales and Ashley Lance have
  brought great distinction to themselves and to their school, and
  they may reflect with pride on their notable achievement; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Jacob
  Gonzales and Ashley Lance on winning the 4A championship at the 2013
  UIL Cross-Examination Debate State Meet and extend to them sincere
  best wishes for continued success and a bright future; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Gonzales and Ms. Lance as an expression of high
  regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
