R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The Crosby High School team of Jacob Gonzales and |
|
Ashley Lance won the 4A title at the 2013 University |
|
Interscholastic League Cross-Examination Debate State Meet, which |
|
took place March 11 through 16 in Austin; and |
|
WHEREAS, Facing the top competitors in Texas, Mr. Gonzales |
|
and Ms. Lance advanced through the preliminary and elimination |
|
rounds without losing a single match; in the championship final |
|
against the team from the Liberal Arts and Science Academy of |
|
Austin, the duo turned in another impressive performance to claim a |
|
3-0 victory and the state crown; the win was especially satisfying |
|
because these two dedicated students had finished in second place |
|
at the 2012 state meet; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Gonzales and Ms. Lance benefited from the able |
|
guidance of head coach Jason Courville and assistant coach Stephen |
|
Garrett, and the team's outstanding showing furthered the school's |
|
tradition of excellence in debate competition; this marks the third |
|
time in a dozen years that Crosby High students have won the |
|
cross-examination state title, and contestants from the school have |
|
advanced to the National Forensic League national tournament during |
|
seven of the past eight years; and |
|
WHEREAS, Through hard work and exceptional skill in the art |
|
of debate and public speaking, Jacob Gonzales and Ashley Lance have |
|
brought great distinction to themselves and to their school, and |
|
they may reflect with pride on their notable achievement; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Jacob |
|
Gonzales and Ashley Lance on winning the 4A championship at the 2013 |
|
UIL Cross-Examination Debate State Meet and extend to them sincere |
|
best wishes for continued success and a bright future; and, be it |
|
further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Gonzales and Ms. Lance as an expression of high |
|
regard by the Texas House of Representatives. |
