R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Vivian Annette Cortez graduated as salutatorian of
  the Class of 2013 at Roma High School, and she truly merits special
  recognition for her impressive achievements; and
         WHEREAS, Earning the title of salutatorian requires not only
  intellect and aptitude, but also four years of dedication to the
  highest academic standards; to attain this coveted distinction, Ms.
  Cortez demonstrated a thorough understanding of a wide range of
  subjects, and the rewards of the countless hours she has devoted to
  her studies are myriad; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Cortez shared her time and talents as a member of
  the student council, with which she was involved in numerous
  service projects; moreover, she is active in the choir at her
  church; she plans to attend The University of Texas at San Antonio,
  with the long-term goal of pursuing a career in the medical field;
  and
         WHEREAS, Vivian Cortez earned the respect and admiration of
  her teachers and classmates at Roma High School, and her
  exceptional scholastic ability, hard work, and commitment to
  excellence have opened the way to limitless opportunities for this
  remarkable young Texan; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Vivian
  Cortez, salutatorian of the Roma High School Class of 2013, and
  extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success as she
  begins the next exciting chapter of her life; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Cortez as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
