SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 20
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize the students of Arlington Heights High School for their
  efforts to advance literacy; and
         WHEREAS, The dedicated members of the Student Literacy
  Committee of Arlington Heights High School in Fort Worth recently
  hosted a literacy rally to promote and celebrate the profound
  importance of reading; and
         WHEREAS, The ability to read, write, and speak well is more
  than a simple advantage for young people; these skills are a
  necessity in a world where technology and mass communication are
  the driving factors in a global society; and
         WHEREAS, At the recent literacy rally, the high school
  students who organized the event spent time reading one-on-one
  with youngsters and working directly with the children to help
  them increase their comprehensive skills; and
         WHEREAS, More than 1,000 young students attended the
  event, and, through the generous support of Score a Goal in the
  Classroom, some 3,500 books were given away; and
         WHEREAS, Such efforts to encourage advanced literacy among
  young people are crucial to the creation of a strong workforce in
  this country; moreover, the power of the written word can enrich
  the lives of young individuals and inspire them to dream big and
  to reach for the stars; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd
  Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend the Student
  Literacy Committee at Arlington Heights High School for their
  efforts to promote literacy; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  them as an expression of highest regard from the Texas Senate.
