A'Lethea Norman Williams |
| |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |
|
|
commemorates the life of A'Lethea Norman Williams, who died April |
|
|
12, 2013, at the age of 83; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A'Lethea Williams was born February 23, 1930, in |
|
|
Omaha, Nebraska, where she graduated from Central High School and |
|
|
was a member of Zion Baptist Church; she moved to Chicago in 1950 |
|
|
and worked for Ford Aircraft before opening Chick-a-Dees Day |
|
|
Nursery; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, She married Lucious Williams in 1955, and the |
|
|
couple raised a daughter, Evalynn Alberta Williams; the family |
|
|
moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in 1968 and operated a string of |
|
|
Weight Losers International franchises; she went on to become a |
|
|
licensed real estate broker and for years was a |
|
|
multimillion-dollar producer; she made it possible for countless |
|
|
African American families to own a home, and she served as a |
|
|
mentor to many in the profession; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mrs. Williams was active in political affairs and |
|
|
served on President Jimmy Carter's Advisory Commission on |
|
|
Agriculture; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A woman of courage, strength, and compassion, she |
|
|
gave unselfishly to others, and her wisdom, her generous spirit, |
|
|
and her enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest will not be |
|
|
forgotten; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, She was devoted to her family, and she leaves |
|
|
behind memories that will be treasured forever by all those who |
|
|
were privileged to share in her life; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd |
|
|
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby extend sincere |
|
|
condolences to the bereaved family of A'Lethea Norman Williams; |
|
|
and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
|
|
Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
|
|
memory of A'Lethea Norman Williams. |
