SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 51
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Dr. Margie Peschel for her tireless efforts on behalf
  of cancer prevention and awareness; and
         WHEREAS, For decades, this exemplary health care
  professional served as a pathologist, a champion of cancer
  research, and an unflagging supporter of the American Cancer
  Society, which celebrated its 100th anniversary this year; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Peschel has been a pioneering figure in
  medicine since the days when she was one of only three women
  studying at The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston,
  at which time she was supporting herself as a nurse; and
         WHEREAS, Early in her medical career, a young patient died
 
 
 
         WHEREAS, She began volunteering with the American Cancer
  Society in the 1960s, and she served as president of the Tarrant
  County branch of the organization; she found time for her
  volunteer work in addition to the demands of her longtime career,
  which included serving as the medical director of the Carter
  Blood Center and as a pathologist at Saint Joseph's Hospital and
  John Peter Smith Hospital; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Peschel also spent years moonlighting in
  emergency rooms, served as chair of the Allied Health Advisory
  Council for Tarrant County College, and helped to set up the
  first training course for emergency medical technicians in
  Tarrant County; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd
  Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Dr. Margie
  Peschel for her lifelong commitment to the medical profession and
  to supporting the cause of cancer prevention; and, be it further
         RESOLVED,
