SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 52
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  Golda Mae Caston Sykes
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
  commemorates the life of Golda Mae Caston Sykes, who died May 25,
  2013; and
         WHEREAS, Golda Sykes was born in San Francisco to Milton
  Kash and Ereva Mae Greenwell Caston; she graduated in 1963 from
  Buchser High School in Santa Clara, California, where she was an
  honor student and a cheerleader; and
         WHEREAS, She grew up in a military family and traveled
  around the world as a young woman; while living in Anchorage,
  Alaska, she met her husband, the late Robert Lee Sykes, and they
  married on December 25, 1964; and
         WHEREAS, The couple traveled throughout the country while
  Mr. Sykes served in the United States Army; they raised two
  children, and when Golda became disenchanted with the education
  her children were receiving, she began a regimen of
  homeschooling; she went on to establish the Sykes Academy in Fort
  Worth to serve other families whose children struggled with
  mainstream education; and
         WHEREAS, A devout Christian who practiced her faith in her
  daily life, she held numerous positions within the Church of
  Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including that of Primary
  president, Relief Society president, Young Women president, and
  Youth Seminary teacher; and
         WHEREAS, A woman of courage, strength, and compassion, she
  gave generously to others, and her wisdom, warmth, and valued
  counsel will not be forgotten; and
         WHEREAS, She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother,
  and she leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by
  her family and many friends; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
  83rd Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby extend sincere
  condolences to the bereaved family of Golda Mae Caston Sykes;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the
  Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do
  so in memory of Golda Mae Caston Sykes.
