SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 107
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize Dr. Peter Rose, who has been awarded the Petroleum |
|
|
Group Medal by the Geological Society of London; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, This prestigious award is one of the world's |
|
|
highest honors bestowed in the field of petroleum geology; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Dr. Rose is a graduate of The University of Texas |
|
|
at Austin; he has held a variety of positions within the |
|
|
industry, including staff geologist at Shell Oil Company and |
|
|
chief of the oil and gas branch of the United States Geological |
|
|
Survey; he has also established a pair of independent consulting |
|
|
firms, Telegraph Exploration, Incorporated, and Rose and |
|
|
Associates; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Dr. Rose is receiving this important award for his |
|
|
work in creating methods for the consistent estimation of risk in |
|
|
the exploration for oil; his process uses statistical analysis |
|
|
and explores such factors as the probability of finding oil and |
|
|
the cost of drilling and production, and it has become the |
|
|
industry standard among most of the world's oil and gas |
|
|
companies; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, He has been active in a variety of professional |
|
|
organizations, notably the American Association of Petroleum |
|
|
Geologists, and he is in much demand as a lecturer on such topics |
|
|
as resource assessment, risk and uncertainty in exploration, and |
|
|
ethics in geoscience; he is truly deserving of recognition for |
|
|
his outstanding contributions to his field; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd |
|
|
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Dr. Peter Rose on |
|
|
his many achievements and extend congratulations to him on |
|
|
receiving the Petroleum Group Medal; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
