SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 126
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  Daniel E. San Miguel Jr.
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
  citizens of San Antonio in mourning the loss of Daniel G. San
  Miguel Jr., who died June 21, 2013, at the age of 82; and
         WHEREAS, Daniel San Miguel was born on May 29, 1931, in San
  Antonio to Velia and Daniel San Miguel; he grew up around San
  Antonio's old Mercado area and graduated from Thomas Jefferson
  High School; and
         WHEREAS, He attended Saint Mary's University and earned
  acclaim by winning a national poetry contest during his junior
  year; he joined the United States Army and honorably served his
  country during the Korean War; and
         WHEREAS, Daniel San Miguel went on to engage in a number of
  careers that reflected his adventurous spirit and multiple
  talents; he was an English teacher and a coach at Edgewood High
  School, a director of the City of San Antonio Model Cities
  Program, and a Bexar County sheriff's deputy; he was a highly
  regarded and much-sought-after private investigator for over 20
  years and worked with a number of prestigious law firms and
  clients; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. San Miguel was also a well-known community
  leader who volunteered to assist with his children's organized
  sports and was active in political campaigns and veterans'
  events; he was a frequent guest at Harmony Schools, where he
  recited poetry and read aloud to students about history and great
  American leaders; and
         WHEREAS, In 2004, he published The Winter of My Years, a
  collection of 18 autobiographical poems; he was awarded a
  Fulbright-Hays Grant, and in 2007, he was presented with the
  Hispanic Heritage Award in Literary Arts by La Prensa; and
         WHEREAS, Daniel San Miguel was an exemplary gentleman who
  lived his life to the fullest and was noted for his warmth and
  wisdom; he was deeply devoted to his family and was a source of
  strength and joy to his wife, children, and grandchildren; he was
  also a generous, kindhearted person who was respected for his
  exceptional accomplishments; and
         WHEREAS, Daniel San Miguel gave unselfishly of his time to
  others and was beloved by many, and he will long be remembered
  with affection and appreciation by all who were privileged to
  share in his life; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd
  Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby extend sincere
  condolences to the bereaved family of Daniel G. San Miguel Jr.:
  his loving wife of 35 years, Barbara San Miguel; his daughters
  and sons-in-law, Senator Leticia Van de Putte and Pete Van de
  Putte, Annabelle Garcia and Judge Orlando Garcia, and Rosanne
  Valenzuela and Pastor John Valenzuela; his sons and
  daughter-in-law, Daniel San Miguel III and Roland and Cindy San
  Miguel; and his 18 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren,
  who knew him best as their beloved "Bempo"; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
  Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
  memory of Daniel G. San Miguel Jr.
