SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 134
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  Edward Carter Maddox, Jr.
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
  commemorates the life of Edward Carter Maddox, Jr., who died May
  16, 2013, at the age of 63; and
         WHEREAS, Ed Maddox was born September 27, 1949; he attended
  the University of California, Los Angeles, and Boalt Hall School
  of Law; and
         WHEREAS, Over the course of his long and distinguished
  career, he often played a pioneering role as the first African
  American to hold a senior position; and
         WHEREAS, Among the highlights of his career were service as
  a senior member of President Jimmy Carter's advance team,
  executive vice president of Black Entertainment Television, and
  senior director of communications for Los Angeles County
  Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas; and
         WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and determination, he
  gave unselfishly to others, and his wisdom, valued counsel, and
  enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest will not be
  forgotten; and
         WHEREAS, Ed Maddox was beloved by many, and he leaves
  behind memories that will be treasured forever by his family and
  friends; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd
  Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby extend sincere
  condolences to the bereaved family of Edward Carter Maddox, Jr.;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
  Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
  memory of Edward Carter Maddox, Jr.
