R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, For nearly 40 years, the Honorable Keith Self,
  county judge of Collin County, has dedicated himself to the service
  of his fellow citizens; and
         WHEREAS, A fifth-generation Texan, Judge Self graduated from
  the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in 1975, and over the next
  quarter-century, he served his nation with great distinction as a
  U.S. Army Ranger, Green Beret, and master parachutist infantry
  officer; his assignments included commanding an airborne rifle
  company, a Special Forces company, and a Special Forces A-team
  responsible for a portable nuclear device; during his time in the
  army, he furthered his military education at the U.S. Army Command
  and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, and earned a
  master's degree in international relations from the University of
  Southern California; and
         WHEREAS, After retiring from active duty in 1999 at the rank
  of lieutenant colonel, this outstanding soldier was recalled to
  service in 2002 for a period of 14 months; deployed to Afghanistan
  and Qatar, he served on the staff of the Plans and Policy
  Directorate of the U.S. Central Command under General Tommy Franks,
  helping to plan the invasion of Iraq; and
         WHEREAS, The extensive leadership skills that Keith Self
  acquired during his military career have stood him in good stead in
  his current position as county judge, the office to which he was
  elected in 2006 and again in 2010; during his tenure, he has
  advocated for conservative principles and vigorously opposed the
  expansion of the Medicaid program; and
         WHEREAS, In addition to attending to his public
  responsibilities, Judge Self gives generously of his time as a
  member of the boards of the Samaritan Inn homeless shelter and the
  Prestonwood Pregnancy Center and as co-chair of the U.S. Army
  Dallas Recruiting Battalion Advisory Board; he is also a member of
  the McKinney Downtown Rotary Club; and
         WHEREAS, Judge Self and his wife, Tracy, have shared a
  devoted union of more than three decades; the couple are active
  members of Stonebriar Community Church, where Mrs. Self works with
  children with special needs; she also serves as children's director
  for the McKinney/Allen Women's Group of Community Bible Study; and
         WHEREAS, Keith Self's dedication, professionalism, and
  commitment to his ideals have greatly benefited his nation, the
  State of Texas, and the people of Collin County and have earned him
  the lasting respect of his peers and the citizens he serves; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby commend the Honorable Keith
  Self on his lifetime of public service and extend to him sincere
  best wishes for continued success with his important work; and, be
  it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Judge Self as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
