R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Kristine Meza Foundation is dedicated to raising
  awareness of the devastating effects of domestic violence and to
  helping victims and their families; and
         WHEREAS, This noteworthy organization was created in tribute
  to Kristine Elizabeth Meza, a Laredo native who was killed by her
  ex-boyfriend outside her home in San Antonio on February 11, 2011,
  when she was just 25 years old; and
         WHEREAS, A vibrant and caring young woman, Ms. Meza was the
  daughter of Agustin Meza III and Laura Acevedo; she demonstrated
  exceptional thoughtfulness and maturity at an early age, helping
  her mother with her three younger sisters and providing
  encouragement and support to her family; known for her radiant
  smile, outgoing personality, and positive attitude, she brightened
  the days of innumerable people, and her strong faith was a source of
  inspiration to others; she was working her way through school and
  had been accepted into the nursing program at San Antonio College
  shortly before her death; and
         WHEREAS, Members of her family joined together following her
  murder to establish the Kristine Meza Foundation; since its
  inception, the organization has raised funds for women's shelters
  through such events as an annual 5K run-walk race and a golf
  tournament, and it started a memorial scholarship for students
  attending the Alamo Colleges; KMF also makes presentations to
  educate the public about domestic violence and provides individuals
  with a means to share their concerns and experiences; in addition,
  it created the Garden of Hope at the Casa de Misericordia shelter in
  Laredo to serve as a place of solace for abused women and their
  children; and
         WHEREAS, Today, KMF is guided by a board of directors that
  includes Agustin Meza III, president, Vilma Saenz, vice president,
  Vilma Melinda Meza, second vice president, Laura Cabello,
  treasurer, Selma Gonzalez, secretary, Michelle Bullock, second
  secretary, Saul Meza, parliamentarian, and three organization
  speakers, Selma Melinda Gonzalez, Veronica Gonzalez, and Nitza
  Gonzalez; and
         WHEREAS, The tragic death of Kristine Meza brought a great
  loss to her family, her many friends, and the entire community, and
  the foundation named in her honor is committed to continuing her
  legacy of compassion by assisting those who suffer from domestic
  violence; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of
  Kristine Elizabeth Meza and commend the members of the Kristine
  Meza Foundation for their important work; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the foundation and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Kristine
  Elizabeth Meza.
