R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The 80th birthday of an esteemed Texan is truly |
|
cause for celebration, and Keiko Miyakawa Duke of San Antonio |
|
reached that impressive milestone on July 10, 2013; and |
|
WHEREAS, Keiko Miyakawa was born in 1933 in Tokyo, Japan, to |
|
Ken and Haruko Miyakawa and grew up with the company of four |
|
sisters, Sadako, Kinko, Noriko, and Kimiko, and three brothers, |
|
Metshuru, Hiroshi, and Uzuriko; as a young woman, she worked for the |
|
U.S. Air Force, where she met a young American airman named Kenneth |
|
Doyle Duke, with whom she fell in love over a lunch of hamburgers |
|
and milkshakes; they were married at the U.S. embassy in Tokyo in |
|
1955; and |
|
WHEREAS, The couple later moved to Texas, and the Lone Star |
|
State has been Mrs. Duke's home for more than half a century; |
|
together, she and her husband founded the Ken Duke Motor Company, a |
|
car dealership that they operated for over 20 years; their twin |
|
sons, Mitchell and Michael, were born in Austin in 1957, and with |
|
the passing years, the family has grown to include three |
|
grandchildren, Christopher, Brandon, and Brittany; Mr. and |
|
Mrs. Duke shared a rewarding relationship until his death in 2003; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Affectionately known as "Baba" by her loved ones, |
|
Mrs. Duke is renowned for her charm, radiance, and good humor, and |
|
she delights in sharing meals with the special people in her life; |
|
she is especially fond of sushi and fresh-baked bread, and six |
|
decades after her first taste of American cuisine, she still loves a |
|
good burger; and |
|
WHEREAS, Blessed with a devoted family and admiring friends, |
|
Keiko Duke is a source of joy and inspiration to all who have the |
|
great privilege of knowing her, and she may reflect with pride on 80 |
|
years of life well lived; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby congratulate Keiko |
|
Miyakawa Duke on her 80th birthday and extend to her sincere best |
|
wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mrs. Duke as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
