R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Members of the Catholic Diocese of Lubbock |
|
|
celebrated the 30th anniversary of its founding on June 17, 2013; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Diocese of Lubbock was established on that day |
|
|
in 1983 by Pope John Paul II; home to 55 priests and 71 deacons, the |
|
|
diocese oversees a region that encompasses 25 counties and 62 |
|
|
member parishes; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Having more than doubled in size since its |
|
|
inception, the diocese today serves over 72,000 area Catholics; |
|
|
Michael Sheehan, ordained as the city's first bishop, spent a |
|
|
decade leading the institution, followed by Bishop Placido |
|
|
Rodriguez, who has contributed vitally to this community of faith |
|
|
for nearly 20 years; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, During the past three decades, thousands of Texans |
|
|
have looked to the Catholic Diocese of Lubbock for moral guidance, |
|
|
spiritual enrichment, and fellowship, and it is a pleasure to join |
|
|
in congratulating all those whose efforts have helped to shape its |
|
|
rich history; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
|
Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby commemorate the 30th |
|
|
anniversary of the founding of the Catholic Diocese of Lubbock and |
|
|
extend to its parishioners and clergy sincere best wishes for the |
|
|
future; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for the diocese as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
