R E S O L U T I O N
|

|
|
WHEREAS, Citizens of Irving are coming together to take part |
|
|
in the annual National Night Out on October 1, 2013; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Introduced in 1984, National Night Out is sponsored |
|
|
by the National Association of Town Watch, a nonprofit organization |
|
|
dedicated to the development and promotion of crime prevention |
|
|
programs; more than 37 million people in 15,000 communities across |
|
|
the United States and Canada now participate in the event; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Commemorated through neighborhood gatherings, |
|
|
cookouts, parades, flashlight walks, and other activities, the |
|
|
National Night Out helps to build community cohesiveness, |
|
|
strengthen relations between residents and local police, and |
|
|
increase awareness of anticrime strategies, while sending a message |
|
|
of solidarity to would-be criminals; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The importance of crime prevention cannot be |
|
|
overstated, and by taking part in National Night Out observances, |
|
|
the residents of Irving are affirming their commitment to making |
|
|
their community stronger and safer; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
|
Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby commemorate the 2013 |
|
|
National Night Out in Irving and extend to its participants and |
|
|
sponsors sincere best wishes for a meaningful and memorable event; |
|
|
and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for the city of Irving as an expression of high regard by |
|
|
the Texas House of Representatives. |
